Last week I moved into a new house and spent the majority if it cleaning the filth the previous tenants had left and building furniture, unpacking and whatnot.
Anyway as people that know me are aware I have a lot of DVD’s and Blu Rays. So I thought I’d invest in two of B&Q’s tall and wide bookcases to store them all, the piles of media everywhere were making my OCD act up. So I pick up two boxes from the area where it is indicated on the display model and having had a very stressful day of assembling bits from Ikea, Argos and such like I simply couldn’t face erecting another piece of flat pack furniture or someone would have got a claw hammer to the face, so left the task to my new housemate while I made dinner.
To my shock when I came back there were not two tall wide bookcases but two tall narrow bookcases which were not what I wanted! I returned to B&Q and checked and they had in fact put the wrong boxes in the area for tall wide book cases.
I then spoke to someone who claimed to be the manager who informed me as they had been built that they would not take them back as they would have to sell them at a reduced price. (Hardly a dent in B&Q's business is it?) I then pointed out that they had put the wrong boxes in the wrong place, which proved to be an excercise in futility as she was adamant she wasn’t going to let me swap them, despite their error)
So today I ring their “customer service” helpline and again, regale them with my tale of home improvement woe, saying that I can accept fault on both parts, I should have been on hand to ensure that the boxes contained what I thought but also they were at fault by putting incorrect boxes in the incorrect places. I was told I would be called back, and I was by someone who informed me again, that because I had opened and built them they would under no circumstances accept them returned.
After again explaining that the cretins at B&Q Reading had put things in the wrong places I was again told no and now I am stuck not only with two useless bookcases at a cost of £80 but an extremely bad taste as to how B&Q treats customers who spend money with them (running total so far since moving is now at £150+)
After this debacle I will never be buying anything from them again and urge you all to do the same. Besides, IKEA offer a wider selection of furniture and the IKEA customer service pisses on the experience I have had with B&Q from a height.

I feel your pain. customer service is a real sticking point with me too. If it were me, I might just return those bookshelves to them and attempt to shove them up someone's backend. But that's just me.
I have also been B&Q'd. I was looking for a Chimnea and went to B&Q Reading to buy one - after trying to find one for half hour, and then trying to find someone to help me find one, eventually some troll like creature emerged from behind a shelving unit and informed me that they sold the covers for a Chimnea, but don't sell the actual Cimnea's. I asked if they would be soon, to which he shrugged and slunk off back under his bridge to eat goats.
Useless.
Good idea Pixie. I may just take them into the store and burn them!
Simon, classic!
If it were me, Joey, I might well also shit in a paper sack and set it on fire, along with the bookcase. But that's just me.
