What's Your Beef Cardinal Keith?

“Ah, I love your religion - for the crazy! Virgin birth, water into wine; it's like Harry Potter, but it causes genocide and bad folk music.” Roger Smith – American Dad

We get it Keith, you’re not big on the gays. Personally I’m not a huge fan of an organisation that indulges in and then in turn covers up horrific amounts of child abuse. So forgive me if I follow my own moral compass and conclude on my own what I consider to be morally abhorant.

You choose to treat gay people as second class citizens because of some badly translated text that has been warped and distorted since it was written 2000 years or so ago. Warped for political, monetary and a whole host of other reasons that serve mans selfish needs. Yet here we are in 2012 and we’re still having to deal with the fall out of this book. A book which a lot of religious freaks like to live by and to quote. Selectively.

There are dozens of instances online of counterarguments to these silly quotes I won’t recite them all but some of my favourites include:

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination." (Leviticus 18:22).
Lovely! I'm sure we've all had a couple of instances where we've woken up next to abominations. So I can kinda see where this Leviticus guy is coming from but he also goes on to say:

"They (shellfish) shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination." (Leviticus 11:11) aka don’t eat Shellfish. It’s bad. OR maybe this gem:

"If a man lies with a woman during her sickness and uncovers her nakedness, he has discovered her flow, and she has uncovered the flow of her blood. Both of them shall be cut off from her people." (Leviticus 20:18) or for those who aren't fluent in bullshit “If you’re fucking a woman and it’s rag week we’ll deport your ass”. Logical.

It's like the ramblings of a mad man, and its nuggets like this which are used to treat other people like shit. Why in this day and age is this rag still being used like this? How have these people still got a say and any form of power?

My personal view on marriage (gay or straight) is that marriage it is pointless. I think it's something couples do when they have run out of things to talk about. But that is just my bitter distorted view as a product of a marriage that shouldn't have happened. However, I wouldn't want marriage banned just because I don't agree with it. I don't find marriage offensive and if two people are happy then let them get on with it. Whatever sizzles their bacon. Unless you're fucking kids. So why do Catholics seem to think that a couple of gays getting married will bring on the end of days? I can't see any logic behind any of their arguments.

One of the main ones I'm hearing is that society will break down if we have to explain to children that sometimes men love women and sometimes men love men. I have 9 nieces and nephews. A pretty good spread of ages 0 - 18 and they all are fine with my gayness. As far as my demographic research on that front goes none of their heads exploded at the notion that sometimes Uncle Joey will bring round a new Uncle.

Another poorly constructed argument is that "If same-sex marriage is enacted into law what will happen to the teacher who wants to tell pupils that marriage can only mean – and has only ever meant – the union of a man and a woman?" Err, the teacher will say it is between two PEOPLE you fucking cretin.

I've also seen this floating round the interwebs and I think it sums up quite nicely what may actually happen should gay people actually get married:

The flip side I pose to my legions of gay followers is this: Why would you want to be part of an institution so against who you are? Am I missing the point here? It's just I don't see many black guys demanding to be let into the KKK so why are some of you kicking up such a stink because some child molesters won't let you get married? My advice, ignore them. Who the hell values the opinion of a club of kiddy fiddlers anyway?

My advice to Catholics, take up Scientology. It's kinda cool and from what I can tell no one gets hurt.

Oh and Cardinal Keith I suggest clearing out your internet history. There is stuff on there that is NOT for everyone; you will get in a lot of trouble. You need to clear your history right away. You may need to uninstall your browser. I'm telling you scrub that thing clean. If you think you're being too cautious, you're not. They will take you to jail.

So gay marriage = bad

Touching kids = good but don't get caught.
